The internet can be a great place for soap fans to read about the latest news regarding their favorite shows. However, it can also be a shady place full of clickbait websites and Facebook groups peddling fake news just so fans will click on the stories. Sometimes the stories behind those clickbait headlines are non-starters, and other times they’re completely fabricated nonsense that unfortunately, some fans actually believe. Like, for instance, a recent rumor about Laura Wright (Carly) leaving General Hospital.

When one Facebook group called “Sonny Corinthos GH” posted a headline that read: “Big Casting Shakeup, Carly Out Of GH? Laura Wright Drops Hints” an angry fan shared a screenshot of it on Twitter/X, tagging the actress as she wrote: “Why you people lie? Let’s ask the woman herself. Hey, Laura, is this true?”

Naturally, Wright herself quickly responded: “Not true.” And in all caps, just to make sure everyone heard it, even in the back row! The actress has been working on GH since taking over the role of Carly back in 2005 and has earned seven Daytime Emmy Award nominations and one win during her years in Port Charles.

Fans were relieved, and so was Wright’s co-star Jon Lindstrom (Kevin), who joked: “Whaaat?? I just read I was leaving soon, too! Are you saying… not everything on the internet is true?” Wright responded: “Haaa, it’s crazy!!” with a series of facepalm emojis.

Many fans also remarked on these clickbait websites, especially the random Facebook groups that lure people in with all kinds of ridiculous headlines that are not true. ABC executive director Nathan Varni, who oversees production of GH, posted: “The majority of online info re: GH is all fabricated for clickbait purposes. Don’t believe news from all these random sources, it’s simply not true.”

It’s always a good idea to make sure you’re getting all of your news from reputable sources, not random Facebook groups or social media posts. And for soap news, you can always rely on SoapsInDepth.com to bring you the truth every time!
