General Hospital Ratings In A Free Fall Amid Backstage Changes?
General Hospital has been going through some major changes, both onscreen and off. A head writer change in January 2024 gave fans hope of better stories and more air time for beloved vets.
But the storylines from the new head writers weren’t a hit with viewers either. Just months after a promotion, Patrick Mulcahey was out, leaving Elizabeth Korte as the sole head writer of the ABC sudser.
One huge onscreen change was the return of Jason Morgan when Steve Burton returned to the show after a three year absence. But fans were devastated when it was confirmed that Nicholas Chavez wasn’t coming back to the role of Spencer Cassadine after booking a huge gig with Ryan Murphy for Netflix.
Now Soap Twitter is up in arms over the rumor that Maura West is leaving the show. The turmoil from the last few months has caused a decline in the ratings, according to the website TV Series Finale, which tracks ratings.
GH Fans Share True Thoughts On Gregory Chase’s Death
The funeral of Gregory Chase (last played by Gregory Harrison) is even less likely to draw in viewers. The character was the father of Dr. Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) and Detective Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard.) The character passed away earlier this week after a battle with ALS.
Gregory Harrison took over the role in 2020 from James Read, who now plays Clyde on Days of Our Lives.
The character of Gregory Chase has been front and center in the recent months as he formed a connection with Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot.) However, GH fans gave their unfiltered thoughts on the multi-episode funeral for the character.
Many fans are outraged that a minor character got such a huge sendoff. Check out some of the replies on a recent tweet from the soap opera’s official Twitter account:
- Your show is completely tone deaf to what the fans want. All of this for a family that not many are invested in. Meanwhile, Elizabeth can’t even get a friend or a family member to talk to. The show deserves the low ratings.
- Epiphany didn’t get a tenth of this.
- I literally FF thru the ENTIRE episode. It’s too much for a character that wasn’t really that important. I liked the character but this is a bit much. Spencer who is a much more important character got nowhere near this much attention. Clips for tmorrow shows EVEN MORE OF THIS!!
- His funeral is going to take 2 EPISODES?? Pikeman story is finally getting interesting and now we see nothing about it for 2 days. Unacceptable
- Not interested how dare you disrespect Jackie and Sonya deaths like this
